Do I need a Notary Public?

A Notary Public is a special appoointment, authorising a Legal Practitioner, to certify documents for use overseas. Some transactions or contracts require documents to be notarised when the document will be used in another country.

In Queensland, the notary office continues to be appointed by the Court of Faculties in England under the guidance of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Unlike other jurisdictions in other states and overseas, the appointment in Queensland is for the life of the public notary. Also, in Queensland, all notaries must be lawyers with at least ten years' experience, and their appointment is accepted worldwide.

A Notary Public has their own seal, which is affixed to documents they sign, and their signature and seal are evidence that a document has been notarised.

Their service is critical to the good administration of legal systems within the country and overseas.

Choosing an experienced, qualified and trustworthy notary for all your notarial needs is important.
